Rocky Knoll Cattle was established in 2009 by Cody and Beth Baloun of Highmore, South Dakota. After starting our own commercial cow herd we set our goal to produce high performing, reproductive efficient cattle that will perform in the feedlot or the show ring. Having a base cow herd of Simmental and Angus genetics, we capitalize of the superior genetics of both breeds while capturing the hybrid vigor of the Simm/Angus cross.
Since 2009 we have done extensive work with embryo transfer and artificial insemination to build our cow herd. We produce calves that will work for the commercial or seedstock producer. We strive to produce females that are moderate framed, easy fleshing, structurally sound and reproductively efficient, along with style and femininity. Our bulls are selected for performance and disposition. They are developed and fed to have longevity with a high return on investment to the buyer through their genetic potential.
We have been showing and marketing females and bulls at the Black Hills Stock Show, Watertown Winter Farm show, and the North Dakota State Simmental Sale. We sell private treaty off the farm and will have our first private treaty bull sale in 2014. Rocky Knoll Cattle would like to thank everyone that has supported our operation or purchased cattle in the past. Congratulations to those who have purchased females and have taken them on to have a successful show careers.
Cody is a full time farmer/rancher and oversees the daily productions of the operation. Beth moved to South Dakota after graduating from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, and is employed by Dakotaland Feeds as a Livestock Production Specialist. We are joined on the operation by our children Cole, Wyatt and Chase. Our strong passion for production agriculture drives our ambition to produce the quality cattle the next generation will be proud of.

We look forward to producing cattle on the cutting edge of the Simmental breed, and developing a reputation herd for the next generation.
